Code of Conduct & Disciplinary Policy
​​We believe the best way to prevent behavior issues is through high-quality camp programming. Wastahi strives to provide a positive and inclusive camp environment under the supervision of experienced counselors, with engaging and fun activities which often reduces many behavior challenges. Below, you will find the Code of Conduct signed by all participants during registration and an abbreviated version of our Disciplinary Policy (full policy available upon request)
Code of Conduct
Camp Wastahi strives to create a safe and caring community. We want all campers to feel welcome and accepted.

I will be respectful to everyone at camp. I will not swear or speak disrespectfully of or to other campers or staff.

I will be respectful of Camp Wastahi by keeping my personal area and cabin clean. I will participate in camp clean up and understand that I will be asked to perform chores around camp. I will not litter!!

I will respect the property of the camp and of others.

I understand there is a NO GRAFFITI policy, especially in the new cabins, and that my parents will pay a $50 to $120 fine for graffiti left by me.

I will ask for permission before leaving my cabin or an activity and will always travel with a buddy for my safety.

I will dress in appropriate clothing for camp. Logos depicting violence, foul language, alcohol, etc. are not permitted. Closed-toed shoes will be worn at camp.

I will not bring electronic equipment to camp (iPad, Kindles, cell phones, video games, etc.). If these items are brought to camp, they will be held by the Camp Director and returned at the end of camp. Camp Wastahi is not responsible for the damage, destruction or loss of such items.

I will not bring alcohol, drugs, tobacco, weapons or fire-producing devices to camp. Possession or use of these items is cause for immediate dismissal with NO refund of camp tuition.

** Legal Note: To ensure the safety of all attendees at camp, if presented with reasonable suspicion of possession of items listed in #7 of this Code of Conduct, Camp Wastahi reserves the right to search a camper’s bag for items detailed in #7. Parent/guardian will be informed prior to search. Camp staff or local authorities will perform search. Subject to “Release Agreements” detailed on below.

I will follow safety instructions and remain in areas designated by staff.

I will inform my counselor or the Camp Directors of any situation that makes me feel uncomfortable, disrespected or unsafe at Camp Wastahi. I will voice my concerns for others as well.

I understand my behavior can affect the experience of other campers. If I do not follow these guidelines or my behavior is inappropriate, I may be asked to leave camp with NO refund of camp tuition.
Please review the above guidelines with your child before attending camp. Campers who disregard these guidelines will be dismissed from camp. In the event of dismissal, it will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian to make transportation arrangements for their child from camp and there shall be no refund of any part of the camp fees.​


DISCIPLINARY POLICY (abbreviated)
In Order to Prevent and Managing Negative Behavior, we

Create group rules to set clear expectations.

Create an inclusive environment.

Use positive reinforcement.
-
Redirect attention when appropriate.
-
Use consequences for unacceptable behavior and rewards for positive behavior.

Never use physical or emotional punishment.
Zero Tolerance Behaviors
The following behaviors are unacceptable and may require immediate pickup without refund of camp tuition.

Possession of drugs, drug paraphernalia, alcohol, cigarettes, or weapons

Aggressive physical contact, such as hitting, pushing, punching, or kicking

Destruction of camp property or the property of others
-
Stealing from camp or others
-
Hate Speech (repeated or unchanged after discussion with staff/directors)

Endangering self or others
-
Verbal threats toward campers or staff
Please note that each behavioral situation is different and may require more specific action or consequences depending on the severity.
Progressive Discipline

Initially, general misbehaviors will be addressed by the counselor and/or director using positive behavior strategies.

If a camper is unable to follow camp policies, or follow staff directions, we will call home to discuss ways to support improvement and to explain the consequences.

If the misbehavior continues, depending on the severity of behavior, a second call home may occur.

The first and second call may include camper if necessary.

If the behavior continues without improvement, accelerates/increases, disrupts other campers’ experience, or becomes unsafe for the camper or others, we will contact the parent or guardian and arrangements will be made for immediate pickup without refund.
